Colorado Motor Vehicle (DMV) Bill of Sale Form

The Colorado DMV bill of sale form is an application that acknowledges the transfer of personal property from one party to another. Technically, it is only required by law in the state of Colorado if the purchaser needs to operate the vehicle before registration i.e. the registration offices are closed, or if there is no room to input the odometer reading on the original title. It is still highly recommended to use in all cases because it works as a receipt for the purchase and sale. The form requires that you note certain vehicle details, the price of the vehicle, the date of the transaction, as well as both parties signing the document.

How to Register a Vehicle

To register your newly purchased vehicle, you must appear before your local DMV(Division of Motor Vehicles) and present them with the specified paperwork below:

• Title
• Bill of Sale (if there was no available space to record the odometer reading).
• A completed VIN Verification Form (Form DR 2698) if the vehicle was titled out of state. Only an authorized agent can finalize this form.
• A certified form of photo identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D. etc).
• Evidence of a current insurance plan.
• Paperwork confirming that your vehicle passed an emissions test – in accordance with § 42-4-310 (AirCare Colorado provides you with an implement that allows users to view the last two emission inspections on any gas vehicle by entering the VIN number here).

Come prepared with the necessary means to pay the mandatory registration fees.

• Vin #
• Date of Sale
• Amount of Sale

Step 3 – Signatures – Read the above statement. If both parties agree, provide the following:

• Signature of Seller(s)
• Signature of Buyer(s)
